1) The human eye acts like a camera.

2) The eye has a transparent diaphragm on the outer layer called as cornea. Maximum refraction of light takes place through the cornea.

3) The light then passes through a small opening called as pupil. It controls the amount of light entering into the eye. The size of the pupil is controlled by a coloured muscular diaphragm called as iris.

4) A thin crystalline lens then focuses the image on the retina. The focal length of the lens is adjusted by the ciliary muscles.

5) The retina has special cells called as rods and cones which convert the image into electrical signals.

6) These signals are then carried to the brain by the optical nerve for interpretation.
