Manure in Crops:

We consume food regularly but are we sure that we get enough iron, protein, calcium and other vital minerals for our health. Not

Farmers add manure to the soil on fields for the following reasons:

  • They need to get rid of the manure generated by their livestock somewhere!! While it sounds a bit like I am making a joke it is actually true.
  • You can spread the fertilizer on the field or do anything crazy the manure will (over-time) become part of the soil.
  • Manure gets spread on top of the soil, sometimes spread on top and then worked into the soil, or injected into the soil.
  • Manure is nature’s fertilizer. Manure will add nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (N, P, & K) to the soil so that the farmer doesn’t have to purchase and use as much commercial fertilizer.
  • Manure adds Organic Matter (OM) to the soil, giving the soil better health and increase it’s water and nutrient carrying ability.
