                MITOCHONDRIA

Mitochondria is known as power house of cell. The mitochondria were first seen in 1880 by Kolliker, Altman, who isolated them from insect, muscles cell. These are small cylindrical rod shape bary in their size (0.2 mm to 2 mm) and remain scattered in cytoplasm. Each mitochondria is bounded by double membrane envelope inner membrane which is deeply folded  and this fold are called cristae. Outer membrane is porous. And we know that it is powerhouse of cell. The energy require for various chemical activities needed for life is released by mitochondria in the form of A.T.P (Adenosine Triphosphate) molecules. A.T.P is known as energy currency of cell. Mitochondria are strange organelles in the sense that they have own D.N.A and ribosomes. Therefore mitochondria are able to make some of their own protein.
