It is also known as the upper House of parliament. It has 243 seats and head of Rajya Savha is the vice president of India currently sh. Hamid Ansari.

THE INDIAN RAJYA SABHA :-

1. It is a permanent body . ( Term 6 years )

2. It should not have more than 250 members.

3. Out of 250 members, 238 are elected.

4. 12 members are nominated by the President.

5. Every member must be a citizen of India.

6. He should not be below 25 years of age.

7. One-third of the members retire every SECOND year.

8. The Vice-President is the Chairman of this house.

9. MLAs of State Assemblies elect its members.
