STROKE VOLUME :
It is the amount of blood pumped by eachventricle of the heart in one contraction. It is about two-third of the blood in the each ventricle which is expelled with each beat.
It is calculated by :
- Subtracting end-systolic volume (ESV) from end-diastolic volume (EDV) for the ventricle.
- In a healthy 70-kg man, ESV is approximately 50 mL and EDV is approximately 120mL,
- so stroke volume= 70ml.
