a) Nylon makes a silky material which was first used in toothbrushes. It is strong, hard and water resistant. It is used to make clothes. In fact, polyamides are mostly used for synthetic fibres in clothing.
b) Rayon is a man-made fibre prepared from a natural raw material called cellulose by chemical treatment. The cellulose required for making rayon is obtained from wood pulp.
c) Teflon is a brand name of a chemical coating, polytetrafluoroethylene (thankfully shortened and called PTFE). It was first made in the 1930s to create a non-reactive, nonstick surface.
d) polythene is the most common plastic in use today. It is a linear, man-made, addition, homo-polymer, primarily used for packaging.
