yeast are unicellular fungi and are microscopic in nature. they are obtained from soil and their they are spherical in shape their cell structure consists of cell wall, cytoplasm , nucleus, large vacuole, numerous granules and fat globules . Like other fungi they depend on other organisms for their food. They reproduce sexually and asexually. These can be stored in water and as powder up. to 4 years. They can be killed at a moderate temperature of 60°C.They Yeast shows brown colour due to the effect of iodine. Yeasts are disseminated by insects, air or even as a dust particles, Saccharomyces cerevisiae cerevisiae is a common species of yeast.
