Islets of Langerhans:

  • The endocrine part of pancreas is made up of groups of cells present in the connective tissue between the acini. These are called as Islets of Langerhans.
  • They are made up of alpha (a) cells and beta (B) cells.
  • a cells secrete glucagon and ß cells secrete insulin.
  • Both these hormones together control the blood sugar level.
  • They also consist of delta cells which secrete somatostatin hormone, which decreases glucagon and insulin secretion.
