Ascomycetes:

  • These are so called as sac fungi.
  • The mycelium is uninucleate and septate.
  • pores are present in septum of mycelium.
  • sexual reproduction is by somatogamy or gametangial contact.
  • example: Penicillin, Aspergillus, Claviceps etc.

Basidiomycetes:

  • These are also called as club fungi.
  • The mycelium is branched and septate.
  • Reproduction is by somatogamy and spermatization.
  • example: Ustilago, Puccinia , Mushrooms, etc.
