Ascomycetes:
- These are so called as sac fungi.
- The mycelium is uninucleate and septate.
- pores are present in septum of mycelium.
- sexual reproduction is by somatogamy or gametangial contact.
- example: Penicillin, Aspergillus, Claviceps etc.
Basidiomycetes:
- These are also called as club fungi.
- The mycelium is branched and septate.
- Reproduction is by somatogamy and spermatization.
- example: Ustilago, Puccinia , Mushrooms, etc.
