Acetylation is addition of acetyl group to the given chemical compound.

● For example -

When benzene is treated with acetyl chloride, benzoyl chloride is formed. This is called Friedel crafts acetylation. It is type of aromatic nucleophilic substitution reaction.

C6H6 + CH3-COCl --> C6H5-CO-CH3 + HCl
