                               CARDIAC MUSCLES
The cardiac muscles are found in the walls of heart.
These muscles are short branched and cylindrical with flat ends. Each fibre of the cardiac muscle is surrounded by sarcolemma and has sarcoplasm with longitudinal myofibrils . They are involuntary in action. These muscles have a  centrally located nucleus. Each cell of the cardiac muscle is uninucleate. The cardiac Muscles have intercellular spaces which are filled with lot of loose connective tissue supplied with blood capillaries.
These Cardiac muscles have light and dark bands. They shows densely stained cross bands called intercalated discs.

Cardiac muscles contract and relax rapidly, rhythmically and tirelessly throughout the life. These muscles contract endlessly from early embryonic stage until death. The contraction and relaxation of the heart muscles helps to pump and distribute blood to various parts of body.
