- Discrete series means where frequencies of a variable are given but the variable is without class intervals. Here the mean can be found by Three Methods. (i) Direct Method: ADVERTISEMENTS: Here each frequency is multiplied by the variable, taking the total and dividing total by total number of frequencies, we get X.
- For example : the class 20–30 contains 6 obervations : 25, 25, 20, 22, 25 and 28. So when these data are grouped as a class 20–30 in the frequency distribution,the latter provides only the number of records in that class (i.e. frequency = 6) but not there actual values.
- Class Interval. One of the ranges into which data in a frequency distribution table (or histogram) are binned. The ends of a class interval are called class limits, and the middle of an interval is called a class mark. ...
- Example: you measure the length of leaves on a rose bush. Some are less than 1 cm, and the longest is 9 cm.
