1. Metals- The elements which gains stability by losing electrons are called metals , such as calcium. they are basically greyish in colour except copper and gold. They are hard, rigid, and have high melting points. They are also very good conductors of heat and electricity.

2. Non-metals - The elements which gains stability by gaining electrons are called non-metals, such as plastic. They are in any form of colour and can be any of the three states. They and less hard than metals and have low melting points. They are very poor conductors of heat and electricity.

3. Metalloids- elements with properties intermediate between metals and nonmetals. Boron, silicon, germanium, arsenic, antimony, tellurium, and polonium are metalloids. ... Metalloids tend to be semiconductors; silicon is the best known example of a semiconductor.
