Literal meaning means that the words that have been used to describe a particular thing, mean exactly the same as their meaning. For example,Ravi literally slipped down the stairs. Now here, the word 'literally'is emphasising the fact that Ravi did slip down the stairs. Metaphorical meaning on the other hand, means that you've said something but in a very accentuated manner,to describe something that actually happened. For example, you say 'I waited for her for nearly a century but she didn't come.'Now you cannot possibly wait for someone for a century but you are saying this because you want others to know that you did wait for her for quiet a long time. Hope that's helpful to you. :)

Answer :

The most frequent and typical meaning of a term is its literal meaning. The metaphorical interpretation of a term, on the other hand, is more inventive. It's a metaphor for something else.

Explanation:

The distinction between metaphorical and literal is that metaphorical is a metaphor; figurative; symbolic, whereas literal is exactly as stated; read or comprehended without extra interpretation; actual; not figurative or metaphorical; as stated in the text or verbally spoken.

Words' literal and metaphorical meanings pertain to how they are used in writing and speaking a language. The most frequent and typical meaning of a term is its literal meaning. In the following line, for example, the term 'light' has been employed literally:

He turned the light on.

The metaphorical interpretation of a term, on the other hand, is more inventive. It's a metaphor for something else. Its use improves the attractiveness and stylistics of the language. Famous authors, poets, philosophers, and others frequently employ metaphorical language. In the following line, the term 'light' has been used metaphorically:

He is the source of all light.

Other metaphorical terms are found in the following sentences:

He's suffocating in a sea of sorrow.

His mind is a calm lake of tranquillity.

Words are employed in literal language to convey their commonly recognised meanings or connotations.

To transmit a more nuanced meaning or heightened effect, figurative (or non-literal) language departs from established definitions.

Figurative language is frequently generated by presenting words in a way that allows them to be equated, compared, or paired with meanings that are ordinarily unrelated.
