Different techniques of measuring genetic diversity in potential parents.  

Generally methods includes in-depth calculations of allele frequencies, genetic distance calculations etc or can be just simple measure of what percentage of molecular markers assessed the polymorphism between two parents.  

Here are few measures of genetic diversity :

Based on number of variants among alleles

Polymorphism/rate of polymorphism (Pj),

Proportion of polymorphic loci,

Number of alleles (A) and allelic richness (As)

Average number of alleles/locus.
