Midbrain, also called mesencephalon, region of the developing vertebrate brain that is composed of the tectum and tegmentum. The midbrain serves important functions in motor movement, particularly movements of the eye, and in auditory and visual processing.

Midbrain is one of the important part or region of the brain found in human beings.

When we talk about the location of this part, we will be able to find this part in between the two regions, that is, forebrain's thalamus and hindbrain's pons.

There is also a canal which is seen passing through this part. The name of this canal is cerebral aqueduct.
