The wool yielding sheep are given protein rich food, for example- mixture of corn, pulses etc. Sheep fed on such food and develop a good growth of shiny and curly hair.

According to the quality of wool required, the sheeps are categorized.

The process of shaving off sheep in order to obtain fleece and a thin layer of skin is basically termed as shearing. it is done in spring season or in summer season.

The process of removing dirt and dust from the hairs is basically termed as scouring. The scoured hair, then sent for drying.

The dried hair which is of different texture are sorted out and the burrs are sent for reprocessing.

The process of straightening of curly wool fibres is basically termed as carding.

The process of colouring the wool fibres in different shades is basically termed as dyeing.

The process of converting the wool fibres into yarns is basically termed as spinning.

Then the spinned wool, then sent for weaving.

Longer fibres give wool yarn for sweaters whereas the shorter fibres spun into woollen cloths.
