Paranoid personality disorder (PPD) belongs to one of the psychiatric condition groups called eccentric personality disorders, in which the person experiences long-standing paranoia, a chronic mistrust and suspicion of people or their actions, in the absence of real evidence or justification. This condition may begin to appear in childhood or early adulthood, and was found to be more prevalent in men than women.
Individuals with Paranoid Personality Disorder almost always take peoples’ actions and motives as malicious and manipulative. They believe strangers, or even the people whom they are close to or know, are planning to hurt, take advantage, betray, or exploit them, even without real evidence supporting their assumptions. Although it is normal for people to experience some paranoia during particular situations, people with PPD experience it to a degree that is so extreme as to affect their relationships, in both personal and professional aspects.
