Position of isotopes: Isotopes have the same atomic number, similar chemical properties but different atomic masses. Based on the periodic law, an isotope is an element, which must have a separate place in theperiodic table. However, there are no places for isotopes in his periodic table.

in mandeleev , isotopes having same properties but different atomic pass fall into different bracket but in modern periodic table , isotopes having same properties and same atomic no. fall into same bracket.
