Skewness: Skewness is defined as the degree of asymmetry about the central value of distribution. Skewness can be positive as well as negative. If the mean is greater than mode or the median, the skewness will be positive. If it is less Skewness will be negative.

If the kurtosis is less than zero, then the distribution is light tails and is called a platykurtic distribution. If the kurtosis is greater than zero, then the distribution has heavier tails and is called a leptokurtic distribution. The problem with both skewness and kurtosis is the impact of sample size.
