Tai people: Tai people come to Assam from a small kingdom of Maulung in Upper Myanmar (Burma). Tai Prince, Sukapha had a dispute with one of his brothers and he left his homeland in about 1215 AD. He was accompanied by a few nobles and a few hundred followers. They wandered about thirteen years in the Patkai Hills before their entry into the Brahmaputra Valley. Sukapha established his capital at Charaideo Hills near Sivasagar and laid the foundation of Ahom dynasty in Assain. They ruled Assam for about six hundred years from 1228 CE to 1826 CE.
