1. The Indian desert extends towards the Western edge of the Aravali ranges. It is a moving sandy field embraced with sand knolls. This area experiences below 150 mm per year rainfall, which is very low. The arid climate and moderate vegetation are the two most important features of the Indian desert.
2. The Central Highland is the land between the north and south part of India in an elevated position. The central highland covers the Indian states of Rajastan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh and bounded by the Aravalli Ranges, the eastern highlands, Narmada River, Deccan Plateau and the Northern Plains of India.
3. India has two groups of islands. The Lakshadweep Islands lie in the Arabian Sea, to the southwest of the mainland. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands lie in the Bay of Bengal, to the southeast of the mainland. Lakshadweep is composed of small coral islands, covering a small area of 32 square kilometres.
