The 3 phases in the healing of bone fracture are:
Inflammatory stage: this is the first stage and it begins right at the moment when the bone breaks. The body is in action mode right away. A small clot called hematoma will get formed around the fracture. It will then attract the white cells to it. White cells are the defence system of the body and causes inflammation at the injury site. The inflammation causes a lot of pain but it also triggers the growth of new red blood cells at the site and formation of proteins.
Reparative stage: here the real healing begins and it approximately begins after 2 weeks of the fracture. The original pain of the broken bones has gone away. The fracture site is weak and tender. Now, the tissues around the fracture area are doing overtime business to form soft callus. This callus layer will help in the formation of new bone. It takes around 6-12 weeks to complete the stage.
Remodeling stage: this is the last stage and here the callus matures and starts to remodel itself into a healthy and strong bone
