Natural Rubber: This is obtained from latex which is a sap of a tree. Natural rubber is a polymer of isoprene.

Acetic acid is added to latex to make it solid. Rubber obtained by this process is highly elastic and has less tensile strength. This is not suitable for making useful products. To make it useful, the rubber is heated with sulphur and the process is called vulcanization. Rubber obtained after vulcanization is strong, inelastic, and more durable.

  • Rubber is a tough, elastic substance consists of elastomers ( elastic polymer).
  • Until the 20th century, rubber was always produced naturally, using latex found in the bark of various tropical trees and shrubs. However, now a days , synthetic rubber is more common.
  • It is normally stretchy, flexible , water proof and bad conductor of electricity.
