Sericulture:

Sericulture is the branch of agriculture industry. It is the art and science of cultivation of host plants for silkworm, rearing of silkworm, cocoon production, reeling of silk, and the related post cocoon activities till the production of fabrics or textile.

There are different types of sericulture, most common being mulberry sericulture. In these different types, different species of silkworm are used and according the host plants will also vary.

It has main three branches.

(1) Moriculture: Production of mulberry leaves (Morus alba), for feeding silkworms.

(2) Silkworm Rearing: Silkworm (Bombyx mori) rearing for the production of cocoons.

(3) Silk Reeling: Taking out the yarn from the cocoons. The product (thread) is called raw silk. It is the raw material for silk weaving industry.
