Answer:

The method of hand picking is used to separate undesirable substances such as small pieces of stones from wheat, rice and pulses. The food grains containing small pieces of stones are taken in a flat container. The pieces of stones are picked up from the grains by hands, one by one, and thrown away.

Hii Silvii

here are the answers:-

Hand-Picking

The process used to separate slightly larger particles from a mixture by hand is called handpicking. For example: Stone pieces can be separated from wheat or rice by handpicking.

Winnowing

Winnowing is used to separate heavier and lighter components of a mixture by wind or by blowing air. This process is used by farmers to separate lighter husk particles from heavier seeds of grain.

Sieving

Sieving is a process by which fine particles are separated from bigger particles by using a sieve. It is used in flour mill or at construction sites. In flour mill, impurities like husks and stones are removed from wheat. Pebbles and stones are removed from sand by sieving.

Magnetic Separation

Magnetic Separation is a method which separates components of mixtures by using magnets to attract magnetic materials.

Sedimentation and Decantation

  • Settling down of heavier insoluble solids from a mixture is called sedimentation. Like mud settles down in water
  • Decantation is pouring out of upper clear layer of liquid into another container to separate two immiscible liquids.

Filtration

Filtration is a process by which insoluble solids can be removed from a liquid by using a filter paper.

Dissolution and Evaporation

Dissolving happens when the attraction between the particles of the solvent and solute are strong enough to overcome the attraction of the particles of the solute for one another. Evaporation happens when water molecules move fast enough to break away from a solution and move into the air.
