The most accurate and scientific method of estimating soil erosion is to measure runoff and soil carried by runoff on the basis of watersheds. Runoff can be measured continuously by Automatic Water Stage Level Records while runoff samples should be taken periodically and to be analysed in laboratories for soil loss.
Soil loss in measured volume of runoff sample ×runoff will give actual soil loss i e soil erosion.
