According to Rob from Children Walking Tall, a slum child “comes from economical housing and their parents don't look after them in a way that I think they should look after them. The parents don't usually think that there is a requirement for them to go to school; they are just left on their own.
Slums are areas of broad social and health disadvantage to children and their families due to extreme poverty, overcrowding, poor water and sanitation, substandard housing, limited access to basic health and education services, and other hardships (eg, high unemployment, violence).
