Major characteristics: The northern plain of India is one of the largest and most fertile plains has been formed by the alluvium brought down by Ganga,lndus, Yamuna, Ghaghara and their tributaries parallel to them.

CHARACTERISTICS OF Northern Plain are
1. These plains spread over an area of about 7 lakh square kilometres .
2. It is a densely populated physiographic unit .
3. These plains have been formed of alluvial soil which have been deposited by the river system comprising the Ganga , the Indus and their tributaries .
