Indira Gandhi was the stalwart of Indian environmental protection and had made statutory changes in the laws and rules related to protection of natural ecosystem.She was the lady with strong affection towards the nature and for the protection of wildlife, water resources, air from pollutants,and forest. She introduced many laws to curb the menace of illegal trafficking of wildlife and forest produce. Some of these rules are given below
1.wildlife protection act 1972
2.forest protection act 1980
3.water pollution (prevention) act 1974
4.Air (protection) act 1981
5.introduction of article 51A in the Constitution specifically mentioned protection of environment and forest and wildlife in 1976.
6.placing "Forest and wildlife" item on concurrent list in 1979- giving both the center and state government jurisdiction over environment.
7.giving protected status to the bird sanctuary

She was the great environmentalist and conservationist and a great Prime Minister of India.
