1. Rayon :

It is a synthetic fibre prepared from wood pulp. The wood pulp is dissolved in an alkaline solution and then passed through tiny pores to convert them into fibres. Then, they are passed through sulphuric acid to make them hard. These fibres are spun into yarn and then woven into fabric. It resembles silk in appearance and is also called Artificial silk. It is cheaper than silk and can be dyed easily. Rayon is also known as regenerated fibre because it is reformed from original cellulose fibres. It absorbs sweat and thus, can be comfortably worn in summers.

The uses of Rayon are as follow :

  1. Rayon is used in the textile industry for making fabrics.
  2. Rayon is mixed with cotton to make bed sheets, dresses, Aprons and caps.
  3. Rayon is mixed with wool to make beautiful and durable carpets.
  4. Rayon is used to manufacture tyre cords
  5. Rayon is used to make bandages and lint for surgical dressing of wounds dan.

2. Nylon :

Nylon is the first fully synthetic fibre made by humans. Nylon derived its name from the first letter of New York and first three letters of London, the two cities where it was simultaneously developed and marketed. Nylon is a polyamide fibre (polymer) prepared by the polymerization of large number of amides molecules (monomers).

The uses of Nylon are as follow :

  1. It have high tensile strength, so it is used for making nets, parachute fabrics etc.
  2. It is also used for the production of textiles (clothing) like sari, shirts, garments.
  3. It is widely used for making parts of machine such as pulleys.
  4. Wool blended with Nylon is used to make suits and carpets also.
