The advantage of the reservation policy is that :-

1. They allow the backward classes a chance at improving their lives and status in society and getting meaningful employment. Or we can also say that they provide social justice to the most marginalized and underprivileged which is their human right.
2. They also get representation in various aspects of society and decision making, something that has been denied to them for a long time.

The disadvantage of the reservation policy is that:-

1. It suppresses the availability of options to the most capable and deserving person. An example may be taken from the field of education. The top engineering colleges in India conduct an entrance test to admit students. However because of the reservation system, the reserved seats go to candidates who scored less than half the marks as compared to general candidates.
2. These policies are also anti-secular because they promote differences instead of removing them and is discriminatory.
3. It also promotes caste mindedness and a casteist society
4. It reduces the motivation to perform to the best of one’s ability for backward as well as non-backward classes
