Some points on operater gene are as follows:-

1. It is adjacent to the structural genes.

2. It controls & helps in the functioning of the structural genes.

3. Normally it is kept switched on as because of the apo-repressor produced by the regulator gene does not bind to it.

4. The operator gene is switched off when a co-repressor is available along with apo-repressor.

5. Some parts of this lies in the promotor gene.

6. In functional unit operator gene is called as operon.

Answer:

These genes are located contiguously on a stretch of DNA and are under the control of one promoter (a short segment of DNA to which the RNA polymerase binds to initiate transcription). A single unit of messenger RNA (mRNA) is transcribed from the operon and is subsequently translated into separate proteins.
