Steps involved in breakdown of glucose in our muscle cells in cases of lack of oxygen are

1.Glycolysis

2.Secondly breakdown of pyruvic acid into carbon dioxide and water with the release of energy through kreb's cycle.

I hope helps you

Steps to breakdown Glucose in muscle cells in lack of oxygen:

  • Glucose a 6 carbon compound gets converted into 3 carbon compound called pyruvate in the cytoplasm.
  • Due to the absence of oxygen in the muscle cell, the 3 carbon compound pyruvate gets converted into lactic acid by releasing some amount of energy.
  • The muscles cramps is because of severe workouts or exercise is due to lactic acid production in it.
