Introduction
So you want to write a princess story, but you're not sure where to start. A good place to look for inspiration is in the old fairytales you knew as a kid. Consider that many of these princess stories have common elements: classic princesses like Cinderella, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty are all beautiful young women; they all find themselves in a horrible situation; and they all require a handsome prince to save them. While this is certainly one way to tell the tale, some of the more modern princess stories include stronger women, who don't need a knight in shining armor to save them. Consider that Anna and Elsa (from Disney's Frozen), Merida (from Disney-Pixar's Brave), and Rapunzel (as reimagined in Disney's Tangled) do most of the rescuing in their respective stories. A prince may still figure into the story, but he's not the main hero as in the tales of old. You should familiarize yourself with these stories and their tropes in order to develop your own princess tale.
