• Ezra Baxter (Penny): Father of Jody. He was bitten by a rattle snake in his hand. He killed a doe and used its heart and liver to cure himself. He allowed his son Jody to bring the fawn back home and raise it.

Answer:
Jody's father Penny was bitten by a rattlesnake. Penny quickly kills a doe and uses its heart and liver to draw out the poison. His father recovers slowly. Jody now feels sorry for the little fawn which was left alone. He wanted to find the fawn and bring it back home. He discussed this with Penny and he allows him to do so. However he asks Jody to take permission from his mother to bring the fawn home. His mother was reluctant first. Jody goes to the place where he had seen the fawn the previous day. He found the fawn and carried it home. Penny was happy to see it. Jody gave the fawn milk and it drank the milk quickly.
