Given :

  • Co-ordinates of a point :- (-2,4)

To find :

  • Abscissa of the given point.

Solution :

In the given co-ordinates of a point (-2,4) we have to find abscissa which means we have to find x- coordinate of the point.

In (-2,4) , -2 lies on x-axis and 4 lies on y-axis

Therefore abscissa of (-2,4) = -2

Answer : -2

Know More about Co-ordinates of a point :-

The exact location of a point on a plane is presented or depicted in the form of (x, y) . Here x and y are known as the coordinates of the point.

Abscissa :- It lies on x- axis ( horizontal line )

Ordinate :- It lies on y - axis ( vertical line)

In the above given question ordinate of point (-2,4) = 4

Cartesian plane is divided into four quadrants :-

Quadrant 1 :- (+x, +y)

Quadrant 2 :- (-x, +y)

Quadrant 3 :- (-x, -y)

Quadrant 4 :- (+x, -y)
