1)At age 21, Ranjit Singh proclaimed himself “Maharaja of Punjab”. He established a secular empire based in Punjab and expanded it till his death in 1839. His reign witnessed modernisation of army and other leading-edge efforts apart from a renaissance in Sikh art and culture.

'2)Paras' in literal terms means 'the philosopher's stone. ' Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the leader of the Sikh Empire, was called Paras due to his philanthropic nature. He was once going out in a procession when an old woman rushed to him and accidentally hit the Maharaja with an old iron pan.

3)Ranjit captured Lahore in the year 1799, which is also considered as the turning point for the Sikh Empire. He was crowned Maharaja in 1801 only at the age of 20. ... Singh started drinking at a very young age as drinking alcohol was considered to be a matter of pride at the time.

4)In July 1799 he seized Lahore, the capital of the Punjab (now the capital of Punjab province, Pakistan). The Afghan king, Zamān Shah, confirmed Ranjit Singh as governor of the city, but in 1801 Ranjit Singh proclaimed himself maharaja of the Punjab.
