A fish can live in water only because it is adapted to breathe in water. A fish cannot live on dry land because it is body shape not adapted to breathe on land. 3) The fish has slippery scales over its body which protect the body from water and also help in easy movement through water.

Aquatic animals have different adaptations that help them survive in water such as structural, physiological or behavioral adaptations. Some of them are enlisted below

1. There bodies are streamline that decreases the resistance while swimming.

2. To cope up with the ambient temperature, they have conserve body heat and are warm blooded or endotherms.  

3. In order to respire in water, they have gills that filter air from water.

4. Freshwater animals have kidneys adapted in such a way that they produce dilute urine so as to get rid of maximum amount of water.

5. Animals living in marine environmment have kidneys adapted to conserve water an excrete more salt from body. They also have rectal glands to remove extra salt from body.
