There is no strengthening tissue are available in aquatic plant leaves. Thus the stems of the plants that grip the leaves can easily bend in the flowing water.

Due to the existence of air pockets inside some of the stems of aquatic plants, they can stand erect while floating.

The leaves of the aquatic plants float on the water surface to absorb as much sunlight that they can for photosynthesis.

The stems and leaves contain air sacs inside their tissues which reduce their weight and enable them to float on the surface of the water. provide them to float.
