SOLUTION

TO DETERMINE

The additive inverse of x

EVALUATION

We know that 0 is the additive identity

Here the given number = x

Let y be the additive inverse of x

So by the property of additive inverse

y + x = 0 = x + y

More precisely for any given number the additive inverse is the number that when added to the given number will result zero

We have

y + x = 0

⇒ y = - x

So from above we can conclude that additive inverse of x is - x

FINAL ANSWER

The additive inverse of x is - x

What you add to a number to make the total of zero is called the additive inverse.

So in other words, the additive inverse of x is another number y, as long as the sum of x + y equals zero.

x+y=0

The additive inverse of x is equal to it but has the opposite sign.

So, y=-x

For example:-

The additive inverse of 5 is -5.
