Learning different languages helps people in a great way, though the learning process is difficult. In fact, languages are meant only for communicating purposes which is done through speaking and writing as well.  

Learning the first language properly, helps people to frame sentences correctly and deliver the message in the correct way. It helps to maintain a correct grammar structure when you learn it with keen observation. But still another language is required when you step out of your boundary.  

People may not be confident while using the vernacular language but with the help of the first language, they may translate and come out of that difficulty.
