Write the applications of convex and concave lenses in daily life with neat ray diagram
Answers
Answer:
Convex lens:
A convex lens or converging lens is one that is thicker at the centre. It is also called a positive lense. When light rays pass through a convex lens, the refracted rays converge at one point. That point is called the principal focus. The convex lens produces a real image and is mostly used to magnify the objects.
Uses of Convex lens:
- Convex lens is widely used as a magnifying glass.
- People who are suffering from farsightedness use convex lenses in glasses to rectify their eyesight.
- In cameras multiple convex lenses are used to magnify the image and to focus, followed by concave lenses.
- The convex lenses are used in microscopes to enlarge the sizes of the minuscule objects.
Concave lens:
A lens that is hollowed inward or curved in is called a concave lens. A concave lens is also known as a negative lens and a diverging lens. When light rays fall on a concave lens; these bend outward and diverge. The image formed upright but smaller than the actual image.
Uses of concave lens:
- In order to improve the focus, concave lenses are placed in binoculars and telescopes before the convex lenses.
- Concave lenses are used in glasses to correct the nearsightedness or myopia.
- In lasers, small concave lenses are used to widen the laser beam.
- Camera manufacturers use concave lenses in combination with convex lenses to improve the quality of photographs. Convex lenses alone produce distortion in photos, which is called chromatic distortion.
- Concave lenses are used in flashlights to magnify the light produced by the light source.
- The widest use of concave lenses is peephole.
Hope it has answered your question.
Uses of Convex lens in our daily life:
- It is used as magnifying glass by different people like palmist , watch repairer etc
- used in spectacles to correct Hypermetropia eye defect.
- used in camera
- used in making of optical instruments like compound microscope.
Uses of Concave lens in our daily life:
- used in spectacles to correct the eye defect Myopia .
- used in doors as spy hole or peep hole
- used in making of optical instruments like telescope
