The small child playing with a broken twig, is happy and absorbed in his game. Even though he has just a twig to play with, he is happy and content. He is in another world – simple and innocent. The poet, on the other hand is caught in a quagmire of work, to create more wealth for himself. The child is content and finds happiness with what he has, while the poet has to work by the rule-book and there is no happiness in what he does. He is always searching for something.
‘Playthings’ is a poem written by the great Bengali poet and Nobel Laureate, Rabindranath Tagore (1861 – 1941).
The small little kid is playing with a twig that is broken but he is happy and is lost in his game.
It doesn’t matter if he is just with a twig, and that’s his only toy, the kid is pretty content.
The kid is simple minded, innocent.
On the contrary, when you look at the poet, he is worked up and all he can think of is how to acquire more wealth.
One has nothing and is happy, where as the other is struggling and distracted with the thought of money and is unable to be happy.
