Balanced Reaction:

\boxed{\rm BaCl_{2}+Na_{2}SO_{4}\rightarrow BaSO_{4}+2NaCl}

  • Barium chloride reacts with Sodium sulphate to produce Sodium chloride and a dense white precipitate of Barium sulphate.

  • Please note that while balancing, you need to put 2 before NaCl, so that both sodium and chlorine atoms get balanced.

Use of this reaction:

  • This is a double displacement reaction (not a REDOX reaction ! )

  • It is used in toxicology, where this reaction can be used to identify if sulphuric acid poisoning has occurred or not.
