Bleaching powder is Calcium oxochloride, CaOCl2 or CA(OCL)Cl. It is prepared by the action of chlorine on dry slaked lime . Chlorine
obtained as a by-product in chlor- alkali process of sodium hydroxide is used.

Ca(OH)2 + Cl2 -------> CaOCl2 + H2O
