〽Causative organism - Pneumonia may be caused by viral infections, bacterial infections, or fungi; less frequently by other causes. The most common bacterial type that causes pneumonia is Streptococcus pneumoniae.

〽Mode - The viruses and bacteria that are commonly found in a child's nose or throat, can infect the lungs if they are inhaled. They may also spread via air-borne droplets from a cough or sneeze.

〽Transmission - Pneumonia can be spread by way of someone sneezing or coughing. When a person sneezes or coughs, little droplets spread throughout the air. These droplets contain the infectious organism. They are then inhaled and may, in some instances, cause pneumonia.
