Write the causes of the Second Anglo-Sikh War.
Answers
It was the war between British East India Company and the Sikh Raj (after the demise of Maharajah Ranjit Singh) Around 1840’s. There were 2 wars. In the first one, the Sikhs won the war but didn't realize it, due to the betrayal of their leader who was working for the British. They realized it in the second war at the last moment when, instead of ammunition, they received bags of sand while trapped in the horse shoe bend of the river with the bridges destroyed by their own leaders. But it was already too late. The British could not help admiring the heroism displayed by each Sikh individually in the face of death (the guns).
The war led to the annexation of Punjab for 90 years under British rule. It led to confiscation & resizing of the Kirpan thru’out the kingdom. The nihungs were quite persecuted. The ‘committee’ system (so-called intellectuals) replaced the authentic Gurmatta & Guru Khalsa system (council leadership by Gurmukhs). Attempts to question, alienate & attack Dasam Banis began. And while they formerly left India, they made sure the Sikh homeland was split in half, between two nations. Present India & Pakistan, being Common Wealth nations of the Empire work together to degrade and/or end the language of the Sikh Granths, Punjabi, on both sides of the border to this day.
Lesson learned:
Own political kingdom and all the bravery in the battlefield are useless to save one’s religion without real MISSIONARY work, because kingdoms rise & fall.
