Behrman is a character of the story the last leaf . He is the old artist, who always wanted to produce a masterpiece painting but had never had any success . When Sue tells him about Johnsy's obsession, he rejects her notion of associating her death with the fall of the last leaf on the ivy creeper. He decides to make a master piece to rekindle hope in Johnsy who is suffering from depression as well as pneumonia He spends the whole night painting with great realism a leaf on the vine . He paints the leave on the stormy night and himself dies because of pneumonia contracted while being out in the wet and cold . Johnsy survives because of the master piece of Behrman .

At last ,

Behrman sacrificed his live for Johnsy . Though Behrman came for a fraction of seconds but changed the whole story
