At first Kezia thinks of her father as an authoritative figure that has to be feared of as he always scolded Kezia and used to find mistakes whenever she spoke to him. He scolded her too often that she began to think what god made fathers for. When she saw Mr.Macdonald playing with her children, she wished her father to be the same. But towards the end of the story she realised that her father loved her and only scolded her for her betterment as in the end he helped her when she was afraid due to her nightmare.She realised that he used to work hard in his office so that Kezia can live a life better than his and it was due to his tiredness that he used to scold her too much
